Children with special needs are often entitled to receive additional services or accommodations throughout their academic matriculation. Federal law mandates that every child receives a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environment possible. This forum is designed to inform parents/legal guardians on how to support and advocate for their special needs child to foster the likelihood of optimal success for each student.
Who should participate?
Any parent or legal guardian of a student who has been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Learning Disability, and/or an Emotional/Behavior Disorder should attend this event. Hear from subject matter experts who will provide relevant insight and information designed to aid families to navigate the school system.
Participants who attend this forum will:
- Have a more in-depth understanding of the various tiers of intervention implemented in schools to assist students who have a clinical diagnosis
- Better understand the difference between a 504 Plan and an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Have more understanding of the accommodations and modifications associated with the specific eligibility impairment
- Have more knowledge of community resources for special needs families
